NOTHING IS MERE COINCIDENCE
By Carolle Fernandez

Have you ever wondered why it seems that your life is caught up in a series of events in the world around you? Have you ever felt the need to be involved in something where you would be useful but hesitated for fear of failure? Have you ever given up on certain matters before even trying, doubting if you would ever find the time?

There is simply nothing happening in this world out of simple coincidence. Everything happens for a reason, everything occurs for a definite purpose. There is always some explanation for everything, though some things we cannot grasp, some things we have to lift up to GOD for understanding.

We live in a world where people and lives always have a connection. GOD binds a man and a woman to live in harmony and love. GOD entrusts families with children because He looks on parents to rear their children with outmost love. GOD puts us in a community of people where we socially interact to build His Church and love one another.

We are the people in GOD’s Kingdom and all of us have roles to play. It is up to us to take up these roles or not. As human beings, we are weak and we derive our strength from following Jesus and committing ourselves totally to Him. As Mark 8:34-35 says, “If you want to follow Me, deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Me. For if you choose to save your life, you will lose it; and if you lose your life for My sake and for the sake of the Gospel, you will save it.”

The mission of Jesus was to save us from our sins, and yes, we are GOD’s disciples. Our mission is clearly stated in Matthew 28:19-20….. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to fulfill all that I have commanded you. I am with you always until the end of this world.”

In my journey through life, I am passionately in love with GOD. I long to serve Him…
Yet, where was I when the priest in our parish called for volunteers to help lead the Youth, who are hungry for knowledge of GOD?

Where was I when the parish needs people to be on vigil and prayer before GOD’s tabernacle during First Fridays of the month?

What was I thinking when an officemate encouraged us to pray and give praises to GOD during lunch break…...and people made fun of this ….and I just kept silent?

Where do I stand in the eyes of man and GOD when someone seeks my forgiveness but I was too proud and arrogant to forgive?

I know the answers in my heart. Romans 8:26-27 states that “The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And GOD, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for saints according to the will of GOD.”

Let us fulfill our mission according to where GOD leads us. Amen.
